BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF WEEDS USING PHYTOPHAGOUS INSECTS

Abstract

In this paper it is pointed out the reasons and the most important strategies for the application of biological control. Valorization criteria are explained through specific studies and examples of effective application of biological control based on phytophagous insects are given. In addition, the biological and ecological characteristics of individual insects in the control of the most important invasive plant species such as ragweed are clarified, with the advantages and disadvantages of their use in sustainable weed management.
