Abstract

In the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, cattle breeding is the most important branch of animal husbandry. This branch of animal husbandry deals with the breeding of cattle, ie dairy cows, fattening cattle, breeding heifers, calves and breeding bulls. The breed structure of dairy cows included in this study was established by visiting farms and breeders involved in the milk purchase process in the area covered by the study. Breeders were surveyed through a survey questionnaire used to obtain the data needed to analyze production on the farm. The total number of heads included in the study is 310, different breed affiliations. According to official data, the number of cows per one breeding in BiH is 2.17 dairy cows, with an average production of 2.315 l per cow, while in the study area, the number of dairy cows per one breeding is 1.85 dairy cow. The research determined an average daily production of 13.97 l in Holstein-Friesian, 14.98 l in Simmental 13.22 l of milk in brown cattle. The data obtained indicate the existence of potential for improvement of this production.
